Status Update

I got this email today, and to my surprise, they have decided to forgive me for not breaking any rules. They have reinstated my account, but with an ever present threat of future disciplinary action. What a crock!  The message is as follows:

“Hi XXXXXXX,

Facebook has limits in place to prevent behavior that other users may find annoying or abusive. These limits restrict the rate at which you can use certain features on the site. Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with the specific rates that have been deemed abusive.

Your account was disabled because you exceeded Facebook’s limits on multiple occasions when writing on Walls, despite having been warned to slow down.

However, after reviewing your situation, we have reactivated your account, and you should now be able to log in. Please be aware that if your account is disabled again, we will not be able to reactivate it. Once logged in, please slow down the rate at which you write on Walls. We appreciate your cooperation going forward.

Thanks for your understanding,

Tatsuya

While I’m happy about having my account back, I’m still angry about the way they are continuing to treat their users. They are obviously not going to change their behavior until we, as users, demand better treatment. If they can’t treat us any better, than we should not be driving business to their site. Twitter, Linkdin, Myspace and many others are waiting for the opportunity to treat us in a manner that is not only far superior to that of Facebook, but not disrespectful or insulting. The address that finally responded was: appeals+du8o5a5@facebook.com

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. I’m more than happy to help.

Hello,

Happened to me at seeming random. I didn’t even get an email. I wrote to all the ones, nothing. It’s been a week now, nearly. I wrote to the one that helped you and they responded with:

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we do not offer support for disabled accounts from this email alias. Please visit Facebook’s Help Center to view frequently asked questions regarding disabled accounts. You can reach this section by clicking the link below:

From there, you will be able to take any necessary steps to receive additional support.

Thanks for contacting Facebook,

I do hope I get it back. What’s so bad is people think I deleted them as friends, or so the few confused emails I’ve received have declared.

Wow, that’s an interesting one. I would just try a few from the top of the list and work your way down every few days. Not every address, and not everyday. It is a frustrating process, but ti seems to work for some.

Hey,

I got my facebook account disabled for adding too many friends and i have sent about 7 emails to all the addresses you listed and no reply. Could I possible see the letter you sent them? Did you ask any of your friends to send them a recommendation letter?

Thanks

KSL

I don’t actually have the message anymore. I just sent the letter of apology and sent re-worded versions of it to a different email address every couple days. You might want to be careful to not send too many messages or they may not be willing to help. I’m not sure what system they use to decide who to reinstate or who not to, so I would just proceed with patience and caution. Don’t let them forget about you, but don’t be a pest either.

I just got disabled for no reason, without warning or explanation. It’s very frustrating. Thanks for this post & for your list of helpful email addresses.

When you were reinstated, were all conditions of your account reinstated? Friends, applications? The only reason I would want my account reinstated is for Mafia Wars… I kind of put a lot of work into it. I know, silly.

If not, then Facebook can kiss my butt. It’s just a time sink & frankly my life would be more productive without it.

No problem, glad to help! Yes, my account was reinstated in full, it was just as if I had just not used it in a few weeks. My mafia wars account had a crapload of money in it since I hadn’t been banking it. As soon as it was reinstated I backed up the contact info for all my friends and went on with business as usual. If it happens again, this time I won’t be left in the cold.

The ultimate irony is the fact that I loved FB before this happened. Now, I realize that their site is being run by a team of dumbasses, which is why they suffer daily outages and malfunctions. Nobody but a dumbass would alienate the very people that make their success possible. They don’t have the power, we do, it’s just sad that so few of us exercise that power. If there is anything I can do, let me know.

I was looking for anyone to help. You do not have to have Facebook to help me!

In the beginning of July logged onto my Facebook account to discover to had been disabled. I had never received any type of warning via my e-mail or the site. Then, I e-mailed Facebook directly at a few e-mail addresses and expected to receive a response. I haven’t heard anything back from then after countless e-mails.

A friend suggested putting pressure on Facebook and trying to get as many people as possible to e-mail them asking about my account. Any help would be vastly appreciated.

Over the years having Facebook, not only have I stayed in touch with friends from years ago, I have made numerous online and offline friends. I use it to network having more than a thousand friends and hundreds of photos and videos.

I asked Facebook to let me know what I did wrong, how I could correct it and also if they will delete my account, if I may have time to collect my contacts on my friend list. As of now I have heard nothing.

If you would like to take 5 minutes out of your day and help me write a quick response to them, please contact me!

Thank you

Your webpage is the most helpful resource I have found thus far. I’m truly distressed by what has happened to me, and have posted it here at http://www.jfdi.wordpress.com. Many thanks. Will keep trying to communicate with FB.

I know how you feel, and the worst part is that it often comes out of nowhere. Well, keep at it and hopefully they will get their s#@* together. The best advice I can give is to fight all temptation to seem angry, cheated or disgruntled in any way. I was fuming, and it almost made me sick how appologetic and nice I had to be to get results. Back up everything the first chane you get just in case.

I hope you’re reinstated soon! Good Luck!

Hi all,

I also had my account disabled without ANY warning via email or messages on the site. I have used the site maybe 10 times in the past few months so I am finding this whole thing totally ridiculous. I have had one IM convo with an old colleague, I’ve sent a few messages (privately not on walls) to an old TSO friend and god forbid… have spoken with my little sister who I only found again (through FB) a few months ago…

I have been looking at a few different forums/sites and the sheer volume of ppl having the same issue is astonishing and frankly has left me more than a little stunned. How is it that a site like this can have so little respect for their users… are they not aware that we have other options? O.o

I have a Myspace page and have had that for longer than i ever had FB. I have emailed FB but after reading everything here.. frankly.. i don’t expect a reply any time and to be perfectly honest i’m no longer sure i want one. Even if they contact me and tell me my account has been reinstated, I fully intend to deactivate it myself but not before letting everyone on my friends list know that they can contact me via myspace in future.

FB are playing a very dangerous game here and the sooner they realise that without their users they have nothing… the better. Wake up guys, if you mistreat and alienate your customers then they can and will move on. You’re a service, a convenience.. NOT a necessity!

Keep fighting them guys.. don’t give up!! \m/

It’s shameful, and ultimately they will pay the price in loss of customer base. It’s just a shame so many people will have to be mistreated between now and then. Keep at them, it may take a while, but if it’s handled right, chances of success are very good.

The important thing to do is to complain to the BBB, back up your account if you get it back, and then stop using Facecrap.

I filed a complaint online with the WA State Attorney General about Facebook. While no money has changed hands, we have entered into an agreement. Their actions, without warning, provocation, etc remind me of a tyrant. At the very least, I’d like to see a minimum of customer service in which the disabled user can appeal or find out more about the actions of this monolithic group.
